UCD Formula Student
UCD Formula Student is Ireland's first electric Formula Student team. Our members hail from all year groups and a range of disciplines such as engineering, science, humanities, and business, from University College Dublin. With a focus on education, technology, and diversity and inclusion, we want to bring sustainable electric vehicles to everybody.
UCD Formula Student is Ireland's first electric Formula Student team. We first competed in Formula Student UK in 2019, achieving 8th place in the Electric Vehicle Category in our rookie year. In 2022 we returned to FSUK for the first time since the pandemic. Now in our sixth year, we aim to build on last year's success - including our promising results after moving from Concept Class up to FS Class.
Our team is divided into the mechanical, powertrain and operations team, each putting in hard work to ensure success for UCDFS at the 2025 Formula Student UK competition.
Formula Student is Europe’s most established student engineering competition with over 100 teams from more than 30 countries taking part. The goal of the competition is to design, construct and race a car built from scratch.

- Reduce waste through parts continuity and reusing components and materials.
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by using our own fully electric powertrain.

From 2025, we plan to:
- Implement a rear pull rod suspension system.
- Create performance modes for different events (acceleration, sprint, endurance).
- Use specialist software, such as Optimum Kinematics, to analyse and develop our car’s performance.

- Finalist in the Racing Pride Aston Martin Diversity & Inclusion Award at Formula Student UK 2023.
- 50% female leadership positions for the 2025. competition season.
- Partnered with Formula Female, promoting racing and STEM to schoolgirls.
